Employees who don't know company policy

I went to Legit retail store at Clearwater Mall to return a pair of sunglasses and the employee by the name of Busi Mahlangu told me that their policy does not allow for accessories to be returned and that the store where I had bought them (Mall of Africa) should have explained this to me. They also mentioned that if you bought a handbag from their store as well, you wouldn't be able to return that as part of the "no accessories can be returned policy". I proceeded to show them that there is nowhere in the return policy of their website does it say what they were saying. Regardless of this, they stood on their word and refused to return the sunglasses. I also went onto their twitter account to report this but to this day I haven't had a response. I understand not being able to return items such as underwear and earrings for hygiene reasons...but sunglasses?
