bad service

I really don't understand this receipt thing, I mean I bought a Jean at legit last year December and by mistake I lost the receipt but the Jean still has the price tag on it, I went to legit after the day I bought it to return it because it doesn't fit and they told me they need the receipt. I've been going to different branches and no one can help me now am stuck with a Jean that doesn't fit and cost R300. Section 20 of the consumers Act provides the consumers right to return goods and section 16 provides the right of cooling - off. Legit has infringed my right as a consumer and I was not notified of the express term that a receipt is required when returning goods.
