Severely Declining Service from a Once-Leading Legal Firm (LEGALWISE)

I have been a loyal LegalWise member for as long as I can remember, consistently paying my membership fees, which currently amount to over R300 per month. My payments are always up to date, and I have never fallen into arrears. However, I am extremely dissatisfied with the declining quality of service I have received recently.

I sought legal assistance from LegalWise for urgent matters related to the sale of my property, including:

Addressing arrears on my levy payments, where the Body Corporate is imposing what I believe to be unreasonable charges. Resolving issues with the Body Corporate, which suspended 90% of services for over two years. During this time, I had to handle those services myself, yet they continue to demand full payment, including interest and legal fees. While I initially fell behind by two months, I have been consistently making payments since then. Despite reporting these issues and requesting intervention, the assistance from LegalWise has been highly disappointing. The person handling my matter has been unresponsive, with only one email sent and no follow-up calls. When I reached out to her supervisor for support, I was assured she would contact me, but that has not happened.

As a result of these delays, I have suffered significant financial consequences. The attorneys managing the property transfer have continued to impose charges while I await the promised "legal expertise" from LegalWise. The service I have received is not only inadequate but completely unacceptable

Dear Sir/Madam,

I write to formally lodge a serious complaint regarding the grossly inadequate and unacceptable service I have received from LegalWise.

I have been a loyal member in good standing for over 15 years, consistently paying more than R400 per month without fail. Despite this long-standing commitment, LegalWise has failed me at a critical moment when I required urgent legal intervention in a time-sensitive matter involving the University of Johannesburg.

I was contacted by a consultant who undertook to assist me; however, this undertaking proved to be empty and misleading. No meaningful assistance was rendered. As a direct result of this failure, the deadline relating to my Master’s research matter has now lapsed as of 1 April 2026, causing me significant academic, professional, and personal prejudice.

This situation is unacceptable. I require a clear and substantive explanation as to why I should continue paying for a service that demonstrably fails to deliver when it matters most. What value does LegalWise offer if it cannot meet even the most basic expectations of responsiveness, accountability, and competence?

Furthermore, I expect LegalWise to indicate, without delay, what remedial steps will be taken to address the prejudice I have suffered as a result of your inaction. If no satisfactory resolution is provided, I will have no alternative but to escalate this matter further through all available channels.

It is deeply concerning that the standard of service has deteriorated to this extent. The level of inefficiency and disregard displayed in my matter reflects a serious institutional failure and undermines the very purpose for which members subscribe to your services.

I have already lodged a complaint on HelloPeter and reserve my right to pursue this matter further should your response fail to adequately address my concerns.

I expect an urgent response.
