Funds held by Legal aid

My contract ended in April at work. I live with my younger sister who is a minor, our parents are both late. In late May I went to seek assistance at legal aid to claim my late dad's policy from workers life since the beneficiary is also late and there is a minor involved. The lawyer that was handling my case was very helpful we got the letter of authority from the high court and in less than a week the insurance company paid the money to legal aid on the 2nd of June. Legal aid is supposed to give me my share and put my sister's share on the gurdians fund. I was relying on the money to pull us through until I get a job but I have since not received my share, when I call the lady handling my file to find out where the hold up is, she says I should just wait it takes time, when I ask for a timeframe she says she does not know how long it's going to take. I have waited for over a month and don't know how much I'm still going to wait. My sister is in school. I am struggling to make ends meet and they are not helping at all. How can processing a payment take this long? I just want my share so I can provide for my little sister in the meantime while I'm still unemployed.
