Disgusted with bad service
Reading so many complaints about the sa legal aid services makes one feel sad at the treatment one gets from them. Since 2018 when I first approached the Bellville office I have had five different attorneys who have either given very little feedback or none at all and if I was lucky to hear from them it was just lies I heard. Many a time the only message I would receive, when a lady named Amanda called me was to be told that the Sheriff of the court was going to take a letter of demand to the person who caused the accident or going into default judgement and that a new attorney was taking over my case and would contact me. Then on 22 January,2020 I was informed that a new head of office, attorney Mr Xaba was appointed and he would contact me. On May 25 2020 he contacted me to arrange a meeting for May 16. On May 16 at 10am he came to my room at the old age home in which I am a resident and we discussed all the problems concerning my case. I informed him of the lack of feedback I was not getting from the attorney (s) and I was disappointed. He then apologized and told me about my court file had been "lost" at court but they had copies of everything. I then had to get new quotes from the panelbeaters who had to also get an avidavit to prove that he was qualified to give an estimate of the damages and to do the repairs. On September 22,2022 I contacted Mr Xaba via email and he informed me that he was no longer at the Bellville office and my new attorney was a Mr F van As and with who I had contact with before. On October 19,2022 Mf van As contacted me to inform me that the case would be settled on November 8,2022. On November 9 I contacted Mr van As to find out what the court had decided on and he van As told me that he was noy involved in the case anymore and that my new attorney was a Ms Burricks who I contacted immediately but was informed that she is not an attorney but my new attorney was a Ms Daniella Fillis. On November 10 Ms Fillis phoned me at 11:14 and we spoke for a while about the case She told me that she would pay me a visit at the old age home on either Saturday 12 or Sunday 13 to fetch certain papers. She did not come out to see me or phone me to explain why she did not come out. On November 14 I sent her an email and her response,in an email was,to quote her"My apologies, something did come up but I can pick up the documents after work in the week, again my apologies" On January 9 the document she required was faxed to her and she confirmed receipt of this. On March 9 at 13:17 I sent her an email to find out about the court case. On March 10 at 16:01 Ms Fillis sent me an email to arrange a meeting. I rep**** and requested a meeting at tbhe old age home. This was to take place on March 20 at 17:00 and received a Whatsapp message to confirm this. March 20 at 13:58 Ms Fillis called me to cancel the meeting because of the country shutdown and the meeting would be moved to Thursday 23. She did not turn up nor did she phone me.
I now await to see what the Bellville office/Ms Fillis's next move is going to be as I am certain that the excuse is going to be the usual one
What I and many others who have had the same experiences cannot understand is why this happens regularly and there is no steps taken to stop this.
