Avoid Leather Gallery at all cost

On 2 September 2020, I bought a coffee table with a glass top, wooden and steel stand; from Leather Gallery - Menlyn Pretoria. I was assured by the sales assistant Ms Sharon Sarjoo that the coffee table is guaranteed against defects for a period of a year. At my house, the coffee table has been kept in one place and well looked after. In the past week, we noticed the peeling on the wooden part of the stand of the coffee table. I immediately contacted Leather Gallery – Menlyn and got confirmation from Phindile that the coffee table is indeed guaranteed for a year and provided me the web-link to lodge a claim against the defects on the coffee table. I consequently, completed the questionnaire on the we-link and attached photos of the coffee table indicating the areas of defects. Got a response from Mandisa to the effect that a “technical manager” will make arrangements to come to my house and assess the defects on the coffee table. A day later, I received another correspondence from Mandisa rejecting the claim against the peeling of the wooden part of the coffee table. Bearing that this was within the guarantee period, Leather Gallery refused to honour the guarantee against imperfections on the coffee table. The conclusion was arrived at even without the onsite technical assessment promised by Mandisa. As a customer, I felt disrespected by Leather Gallery and failure by this entity to appreciate that I chose to buy from them. They guarantee their products but fail to honour the undertaking. What is the purpose of the guarantee, if it is not honoured? A coffee table is not something that one buys every second year. The expectation is that a coffee table lasts for a number of years if it is purchased from the so called “reputable” dealer. For a peace of mind, please do not buy from Leather Gallery as their products and business ethics is questionable.
