Good day Good day, I really have a problem with insurance claims. We moved to a farm in the Karoo, near Strydenburg and we have installed Solar Power because their are no ESKOM power available. It is insured by the OVK Broker, Petrus Mare at OVK Hopetown and the Insurers are Landmark. During January 2016 the Inverter was damaged by Lightning. It is insured for the replacement value of R 40,000.00. It is a 96V 5000W Inverter.The Insurer wanted to replace it with a 48V 3000W Inverter. I wasn't happy with the offer and referred it to the Ombudsman. On 28 June a complaint was registered with the Ombudsman, see letter Dear Mr or Ms Deyser We acknowledge receipt of your complaint which was received in our office on 2016/06/28 09:00 AM. Your complaint has been allocated to John Theunissen with the following reference number D383/16T. Our further advices will follow. Regards, The Ombudsman for Short Term Insurance (NPC - Reg. No ***) The Ombudsman are not handling the complaint in a fair way - reasons: - 1. I have pointed it out to them that the quotations used by Assessors NID from Bloemfontein given to them by Genus Power isn't correct, and that Genus Power are using false information to give out quotations. 2. Not one of the questions asked to the Ombudsman was answered by his office. They ignored my requests and information and send the offers made by the Insurer. 3. The Inverter was imported from China = total cost R 40,000.00. The Insurer offer us R 25,000.00, the so called price for which they can buy it in China. (Excluding Shipping, Taxes, Transport and Installation) SO IF YOU BUY A LG TV FOR R 10,000.00 AND THE INSURER GOOGLE THE TV AND SEE THAT THE COST OF IT IS $ 200.00 IN CHINA THEY NOW WANT TO PAY YOU OUT, ONLY THE R 3,000.00, BECAUSE THT IS THE PRICE IT IS ADVERTISED FOR. 4. However at some stage they had included a Laughable R 1,300.00 for Shipping, taxes, transport and installation. The Ombudsman even agreed with that although I pointed out that shipping alone is approximately R 10,000.00. Nothing I pointed out was considered by the Ombudsman. 5. All along it feels like they just consider what the Insurer and Assessor say. 6. The claim was registered in January 2016 at the Insurer. In the meantime there was a second claim in March, registered at the Ombudsman end of June. We are now ten months later of which four includes the Ombudsman. I feel like someone must make a fair decision considering the facts, taking in consideration that the Assessor and the company who gave the replacement quotation are using false information. It is difficult to work from the farm as we don't have the best of connections. I request your sincere support with this matter, All we want is the money owed to us as specified in the policy as requested by the Broker insuring every part of the Solar Power system separately, the Inverter for R 40,000.00. Yesterday I received an e-mail from the Ombudsman in Afrikaans who now after 4 months, all of a sudden wants to talk to me personnally over the phone. Kind Regards. Roelof Deysel.
