My mom was hospitalised in April 2019. She was inexplicably ill and a bone marrow test was requested. Lancet was called in to do the test as the attending physician had used their blood testing form. They used two needles to do the test. Discovery medical aid refuses to pay for these needles as they state by law, I should not be charged for consumable needles. Lancet is insisting I pay for them. The catch in this whole this is that they DO NOT have my mother's signature on the bone marrow test form at the portion giving consent for the test to be performed and for me to be liable for any medical aid short falls. They even emailed me these forms displaying this discrepancy. The kicker in this whole thing which Leandri Barnard, the manager I spoke to , informs me, is that the attending physician is actually liable as he requested the test so it was his duty to inform me of there being a possible short fall if the needles do not get paid for. She also goes on to say that the amount I am being charged for is for needles and petrol for the Doctor who came out to the hospital to perform the test. So in conclusion, Lancet wants me to go to the attending physician and tell him to pay the R 1033.36 for the needles and petrol.
