Medical Aid ***** / Accounting ****/ Overcharging

LANCET LABORATORIES – QUERY MEDICAL AID *****/OVERCHARGING

On consulting with a surgeon in Benoni on 16th January 2017, I was referred to Lancet Laboratory located at Life The Glynwood Hospital, Benoni for blood tests prior to a procedure the following week on 26th January 2017.

Presenting the lab request to Zinhle Sefuba, she requested me to fill in and sign the request provided by the Dr. My details were filled in as requested. On offering my medical insurance card, she informed me that Lancet does not accept my medical insurance and that I will have to pay for the tests upfront, but still made a copy of my ID and medical insurance card.

My youngest sister who accompanied me, (as she supports me financially) told Zinhle it was not a problem and asked what the amount was to be paid for the tests. An amount of R562.00 (five hundred and sixty two rand) was requested and paid by credit card. Receipt no ********** 37-9 was issued for the services to be rendered.

At the point of making the payment I requested an invoice in order to claim from my medical insurance and was assured by Zinhle that an invoice will be forwarded to my email address.

A statement via email for the amount of R558.00 was received on 21/02/2017, and payment requested. First confusion, I paid R562.00 ? – R 4.00 overcharge ?

Then a second email on 7/03/2017 with a statement requesting payment of R159.00

SMS was received on 8/03/2017 requesting payment of R159.00 due to Lancet, more confusion ??

Please find screen prints of the emails then sent to Lancet.

A signed copy of the original request signed by myself and the so called second tests and invoices was requested.

On 14/03/2017 I received a copy of “a lab form”, most certainly not signed by me and not the form I signed at the lab.

On 16/03/2017 at 14:08 I received a phone call from +27 87 ********** , the Lancet call centre, requesting payment of R159.00 that was not covered by my medical insurance. After trying to explain that I paid R562.00 as required and that my emails sent laid out the error, I was told again that that a second batch of tests were done. What ??? There were most definitely no second tests done ! Now at this point I am boiling, seething mad !!

Please find print screens of all the emails sent and the responses given.

Then to put fuel on the fire, I receive an SMS on 25/03/2017 for the R159.00 outstanding.

No-one of any executive level has contacted me to sort this out.

Voice recordings are on record with Lancet where I stated that they owe me R403.00 and that I will not accept that I now have been charged R1,120.00 for the tests originally requested.

Since this encounter started I have now heard from more people that have had medical practitioners pull the same stunt. Yes, they have been refunded, but only once they insisted on it.

They tell you that you medical aid/insurance is not accepted, copy your details and then claim anyway. How many people have been caught with this **** ?

I am owed R403.00 by Lancet Laboratories and will not settle this issue until I am refunded the monies due to me.

With honourable intentions I paid for a service that was requested. Now I am sitting with the audacity of Lancet to claim and get paid from my medical insurance as well.

There is most certainly dishonesty/*****, call it what you want, going on.

Sincerely

Anza Nienaber

Dear Mrs Nienaber
We apologise for what seems to have been a mis-understanding on your part.
Dr Clifford requested we do 3 tests of which 2 are group tests so ultimately 5 tests would be run:
FBC – which is the Full blood count and Platelet count
FT4 which incorporates the TSH
FT3 – Free Tri-Iodothyronine
The following Tests that were billed to you privately (Cash) is not covered by your medical (this was explained to you and noted on the Request form by the Doctor). You will note that you signed both the Lab forms acknowledging that you
FT3
FT4
However, the FBC as well as the TSH is covered by your Medical aid. These tests were billed separately to Essentialmed. However, Essentialmed paid a portion of the account (R339.00) as you had run out of funds. All tests that were requested and billed were vetted by our Doctor.
Kindly view Forms submitted by the Doctor and those that you signed as well.
We trust this is in order.
Kind regards
GM
