<p>A doctor requested my son undergoes an allergy test, he is obviously affiliated with Lancet as that is who he sent us to, did not even ask which Lab we would like to use. Nonetheless, I went with Lancet but was sure to ask how much they would charge me. The on duty sister quoted R600, I categorically asked whether that was all, where there any other costs and she insisted, NO. Lancet then went and claimed R1918, which I raised with Discovery, who were very supportive in the matter and informed me that I can dispute the claim and they will not pay it. I did exactly that and paid cash the R600 I was quoted. I raised the matter with Lancet and a Miemie Meissenheimer had committed to investigating and resolving the matter..,she subsequently reneged on her commitments. Since then Lancet have been calling/SMSing and even handed-over the matter to their debt collectors, with a Adrian Kruger the front runner now. This is tantamount to ******ion and I will succumb to their threats.</p>

We apologise for the delayed or non-response from Miemie. Unfortunately, she has been off work, however, she has instigated an enquiry with the relevant Depot that advised you on the price of the tests.
Under normal circumstances, our staff are trained to advise that quotations given are approximate (as is also stated on our Consent Forms). We especially take care with our quotation on tests that trigger further tests when the results are abnormal.
In the case of your child, the Phadiotop result showed a Low positive. This in itself, cannot determine what your child is allergic to. In order for the Doctor to prescribe treatment, the source had to be determined in terms of the recommendation by the NPG (National Pathology Group) – see below:
The 2014 ALLSA/NPG consensus approach to cost-effective allergy testing and recommended screening panels have been adopted by Lancet laboratories. Please note the consensus aero-allergen or food panel will be done as either a reflex or request as indicated on the request form only. If a specific allergen not on the new form is required, please indicate details in the space provided. Thank you for your assistance in making allergy testing affordable and accessible.
The Doctor can attest to the relevance and value of the Tests that were reflexed. We suggest that you re-consider advising Discovery to process this payment as the tests were done in good faith.

I appreciate that at times certain tests cannot be quoted to the nth degree however in this specific instance 2 main issues arise for me.
Firstly, its quite easy to accept and understand if the depot had explained that should the initial test come back a certain result this would trigger additional tests which would result in additional cost - this the would allow me a better position to decide whether I can afford to continue or not as this specific scenario is not a life threatening emergency . I budget my MSA the same way I budget with my salary as its tantamount to a savings bank account as the name aludes.
Secondly, estimates are well calculated figures that should to some degree correlate with the final result. Assuming the R600 was an estimate, and not the definite amount as I was informed, surely an increase from that to R1918 is absurd to say the least, the figure more than tripled. It would more acceptable to a client if the attending sister said he/she has no idea what the amount will be. This way whatever conclusive figure is arrived at no expectation was set with the client. As experts in this field, we as laymen are reliant on your learned expertise.
How would you feel as a customer having to fork out more than 3 times what you were confidently quoted? I honestly believe I am justifiably upset with Lancet and convinced I do not owe you a single cent.
Its the second time I am being assured an investigation is underway, thus don't blame me for believing this is merely a "damage control" statement not accompanied by any sincere intention to resolve the matter. Miemie reneged on commitments not made solely to me but to Discovery as well because if memory serves we even had a 3 way conference call between the parties. I have very little to zero faith in her.
Looking forward to you proposing an amicable solution to this impasse.
