Lalela 720W Inverter Trolley Issues

A family member bought a Lalela 1.2KVA, 720W inverter trolley for his son in order to overcome load shedding issues whilst studying for his varsity finals. No issues at first but after around three months they noticed that the inverter switched off after around 25 minutes running on a reasonably light load (laptop, WiFi and low wattage desk lamp). When ESKOM power came on the inverter panel would indicate the battery was charging and show a fully charged status after around an hour which did not seem right. Dealer was approached but like so many other reviewers they came up against a brick when trying to resolve the issue. With nothing to loose we opened up the box and load tested the battery. The load test indicated that the battery (100Ahr Enertec deep cycle battery) wasn't holding a charge. So far so good. We then replaced the existing battery with an almost new deep cycle battery which lasted in the region of 2 hours when connected to a flat screen TV and WiFi router. All good for a couple of days until the 250V fuse in the back of the unit blew, the plug breaker on the house board tripped and the battery was very hot to the touch. Replaced the fuse (unit comes with a spare fuse), let the battery cool down and connected the inverter to a different plug circuit. Same thing - inverter fuse blew and breaker tripped. Two issues here: (a) It appears that the charging circuit is not up to scratch. The manual states that is takes in the region of 13 hours on the 10 Amp setting to fully charge the battery - 7 hours if you use the 20 Amp setting. Given the current load shedding status anything more than 4 hours of power cuts per day means that the the battery will never fully (re)charge which can lead to premature failure or loss of capacity. We changed the setting to 20 Amps which we believe led to the inverter cooking the battery and blowing the inverter. The manual states that the inverter comes with overcharge protection but this appears not to have worked. (b) The battery (on its own) does appear to be the issue here. Battery cut-off was measured at just under 12V which equates to around 50% depth of discharge which is pretty good when compared to similar units on the market. A major area of concern, however, is the lack of a battery fuse - a definite no no. Shorting out a 100Amp battery can cause serious issues. In addition, purchasers should be made aware that usable amps for a non LifePo4 type battery is essentially around 50% of the stated capacity - unless you want to drastically shorten battery life. Inverters, like batteries, have a finite life but cheaper units can cause endless problems. Having to buy a replacement battery every few months is an expensive undertaking. Would I purchase a Lalela product? Not a chance. Even if the product was of a better quality the lack of any real dealer support is a definite turn-off.
