Double Booked, No Accountability, Ruined Breakaway

I booked Lacebark Cottage through Booking.com, where the only payment option offered by the property was immediate full payment. After paying in full upfront, I was then told by the property that I must cancel the booking because they had accepted overlapping reservations due to their ongoing double booking problems. This caused the following: 1. I now have to wait 10–12 working days for Booking.com to process a refund. 2. My bank could reverse the payment while it is still pending, but they require an authorisation letter from Booking.com — which Booking.com refuses to provide. 3. I am left without funds and unable to book alternative accommodation for my planned breakaway. The property has openly admitted that they are aware of these booking problems but still insist on taking immediate full payment. To make matters worse, they continue to take no accountability and refuse to assist in resolving the issue, instead shifting all responsibility and inconvenience onto me as their customer. This is completely unacceptable. Lacebark Cottage must urgently change their payment terms and take responsibility for protecting their guests, instead of knowingly allowing customers to suffer the consequences of problems they are fully aware of. Their refusal to assist has left me out of pocket and has ruined my planned breakaway.
