Shocking service from wedding vendor

This wedding service originally quoted me around R 12 000 for a wedding of 48 guests. When we reduced the numbers to 30 due to covid and changed to a smaller venue, the bill was suddenly raised by R 4000 to a total of R16 000 for some greenery and stationary. By then I had already paid a deposit of R 7800. I decided to cancel the service as the invoice was obviously no longer in my budget as I did not expect the price to be raised to such an exorbitant level with a significantly reduced amount of guests. We started the process of hiring a lawyer however decided the costs could be too great and this company refuses to return any amount of the deposit. I dont know how anyone sleeps at night taking almost R 8000 of a stranger's hard earned money and walk away having done zero work for the value of that money. They took so long getting back to me about what I would owe after the new changes that by the time they did get back to me, they claimed my deposit was completely non refundable (which is ******* by South African law) as it was too close to the wedding. They stalled until they would no longer feel like they have to refund my deposit. We also only recieved a contract to sign ONE YEAR after I had already paid. Only then did we see the terms and conditions and obviously didnt agree with them so it wasnt signed. In the end, we were offered to refund 36% of the deposit paid to them and have still not heard anything from them or recieved a single cent. Weddings are stressful enough and this company made it worse. Do not let them ruin your day like they did mine.
