La Rez Stellenbosch

My lived experience of staying at La Rez has been a deeply disappointing experience. The treatment from the office staff is patronizing, you are treated and handled like a child and is reminiscent of boarding school rather than adult renting. The constant noise pollution—from traffic, sirens (fire department just down the road), and disruptive neighbors—is relentless and severely impacts sleep quality. Fighting and shouting in the street will keep you up. My unit was in a deplorable state upon move-in. Dirty walls, a ton of ****roaches, a malfunctioning door, a leaky basin, and a persistent foul odor from the bathroom plumbing were just the beginning. The building's poor construction led to water leaks and black mold that ruined my belongings. To prevent further damage, I was forced to leave cupboards open, risking contamination of my groceries. Despite these issues, the property management failed to address the wall damage, water leaks, or the significant health risks posed by the mold. To add insult to injury, I was unexpectedly presented with a "deep cleaning invoice" at the end of the lease term. This additional charge, not outlined in the original contract, was justified by management as a standard practice for all students. "We have to take some of your deposit hahaha." The last way to boost themselves from your pocket. If you are experiencing similar or identical problems, I urge you to exercise your rights and contact the Housing Tribunal and SRC to raise awareness about the unacceptable conditions at La Rez.
