KZN CV Joints - Keep Away

<p>In April 2015 I took my Subaru Forester to Subaru Durban for a check up as the re was a loud knocking noise coming from the front right wheel. I was informed that the CV joint needed replacing and recommedned that I take it to KZN CV joints at 57 Pine Street Durban as Subaru did not attend to these problems. The staff at KZN CV joints were polite and explained that the CV joints needed to be reconditioned (not repaced) in the front right wheel. As they were recommended by Subaru I did not question their integrity and authorised them to procedd with the repair. When I got the bill I was shocked at the price (R10,545) but they explained that it was a lot more work than they first thought it would be. This should have been a red flag warning which I let go by based on the recommendation by Subaru. After the repair there was still a knocking noise so I took it back. I was advised that the power steering rack was the problem and needed to be stripped and repaired. Once again I accepted their advice as after all Subaru said they were the specialists. R6,000 later the knock was still there. After numerous road tests the mechanic recommended I take the car to National Power Steering, which I did. After 20 minutes of fault finding they discovered that two bolts on the chassis were loose which was causing the knocking sound. They tightened the nuts and did not charge me. Brilliant service National Power Steering. I confronted KZN CV Joints for a refund but they were not interested. I should have taken them to court but I could not afford the time and expense. They only gave a 12 month warranty. It's now July 2017 and the same CV joint has failed. It is now with National Power Steering and the cost to replace is R1,000. They advised that a CV joint must always be replaced and never reconditioned. So based on my experiences with KZN CV Joints make sure you get at least another two quotes to compare as they are "******* artists". PS I have since heard from a mechanic who used to work for them that they are a very ************ business.</p>
