Car loses powersteering while on their ramp

I took my Seat Leon 2.0 TDI to Kwik Fit for fitment of front shocks on 26/02/2015, my car was in driving condition when they received it and they drove it onto their ramp...otherwise they wouldn't have been able to drive it.
They were only supposed to fit front shocks yet somehow after fitting the shocks and wanting to take my car off their ramp my vehicle's powersteering had lost all functionality!
They have taken my car to various 'specialists' who have advised them that the steering rack needs to be replaced yet they continued to waste more time and resources.
They have also written off any amounts I would have had to pay them for the workmanship done on my car including various costs incurred from other 'specialists'
I am outraged that 3 weeks later I am still no further in getting my car repaired and have to make my own travel arrangements to get to work and back.
They refuse to fix my car at their expense as both common sense and the timeline suggest that they did something wrong while the vehicle was on their ramp??
I feel that they should take responsibility as it happened on their premises while they were working on my car.
is this fair?
