Safety issue

When the plane approached the landing strip at Lanseria I could feel the plane was approaching too fast and the plane was quickly pulled up and had to make another turn for a second attempt to land. This happened on Sunday, 13 October 2019. I saw my life flashing in front of me. And we were screaming a bit. The pilot spoke over the intercom explaining something about wind turbulence? I was not entirely convinced with that explanation? This left me feeling very scared and uncomfortable and not very confident in the competency of your pilot. I hope you look into this to prevent future mishaps. Date of travel: 15 Oct 2019 Reference number: TETRXB

We do apologise for inconvenience caused to you, whilst using our services and the delay on the feedback regarding the matter logged with us. We are unfortunately experiencing a backlog with some cases due to a system error we are facing. You can be assured that we are doing everything in our power to ensure that such us eradicated.

Please allow me to highlight that Comair has a Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) programme to monitor such events as hard landings. There are sensing instruments on board every aircraft that record numerous performance parameters including the “g force” on landing. If any parameter exceeds an industry-wide acceptable figure, a report is automatically generated and then the appropriate corrective action is taken.

In this case the parameters were not exceeded and whilst the quality of the touchdown may not have been up to the normal high Comair standard, it was not unsafe nor of such a nature as to cause damage to the aircraft. There are various elements that determine whether a landing is a “good” one such as the threshold crossing height, speed at touchdown, the position relative to the touchdown target, whether wings are level and then finally the quality of the touchdown itself. All that passengers are in a position to judge is the firmness of the touchdown, but that is not the whole picture from a safety and quality perspective.
