Policy on grounded flights
<p>Good day</p> <p> </p> <p>Please email me your SOP (standard operating procedures) for grounded flights</p> <p>Flight MN913 was sent back to JHB on the 29 May 2016 due to adverse weather conditions.</p> <p>Passangers were told to make their own plans wrt accommodation as it was NOT Kulula's problem.</p> <p> </p> <p> Today(30 May 2016) we have received information that the Kulula was informed before departure of the weather conditions as early as 16:00 on the 29th May 2016. Kulula ignored the info and proceeded to fly out risking all passanges lively hoods</p> <p> </p> <p>This is trully disgusting and irrisponsible from Kulula and we plan to take legal action on this matter.</p>

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with us.
Whenever we make any decisions we consider firstly the safety and legal aspects of the flight and secondly what would our passengers want. When the crew signed on for the flight, the weather forecast was acceptable for dispatch into George. If there is a possibility of us landing at an airfield we will dispatch the aircraft because our customers would want to be at their chosen destination.
At no time during the flight were any passengers at risk. All our flights carry sufficient fuel to divert to an alternate airport. In this case the Captain and the Operations supervisor discussed the possibility of diverting and decided that it would be better to divert back to Johannesburg (point of departure) instead of the passengers being at a different airport.
