Please give obese people a bigger seat

I had an obese person next to me on the flight (weighing more than 200kg). He took part of my seat as well. He paid Kulula extra for a bigger seat but only got extra leg room no extra seat width. When will the airlines wake-up and install a few bigger seats (in width and leg room) for bigger people and make them pay more. Why should I pay for him to hang over and fill part of my seat. Hostess had no empathy for me that had to stand for most of the flight.

Hello Obese,

Thank you for your post.

Unfortunately we do not see all our passengers when their tickets are booked and with our Self Service Check in facilities at the various airports, we sometimes only see the passengers for the first time at the boarding gates when there is a rush to board the aircraft. This is unfortunate as we are unable to implement a satisfactory policy to cater for this type of situation as this is rather a sensitive issue which can escalate to a human rights and ************** issue very quickly.
We prefer to deal with the issue on a case to case basis:
o Some persons prefer to be comfortable when they travel and hence purchase two seats to provide for additional room.
o Our cabin crew may identify the passengers onboard and move the passenger seated next to them in order to provide additional room (providing that there are seats available on board); alternatively
o A passenger may be offloaded due to safety concerns, especially if their seat belts do not fasten and they may be requested to purchase a second seat.

Kind Regards

David
