Pasengers with too much cabin baggage
My understanding is that passengers are only allowed one piece of baggage in the cabin. One of the hosties on my flight confirmed this.

So why were so many people on that flight allowed to board with (say) a backpack and a suitcase? This overloads the lockers, delays boarding while they search for space, and is just simply disrespectful to those of us who obey the rules.

I then have to wait 30 minutes at the carousel, while the rule-breakers sail off with no delay.

The hostie told me that bidvest (who are they?) are responsible for screening the baggage to ensure nobody has too much in the cabin. That may or may not be the case, but it's irrelevant. Cabin crew should refuse boarding to anybody with too much cabin baggage, regardless of how many times they've been screened before that.

Why should I suffer for sticking to the rules?
Thank you for your post.
Irrespective of the successes we have in sending passengers back to the check-in counter from the boarding gate and even with the assistance from ACSA (Airports Company South Africa) at the security points, the control and monitoring of hand luggage is a challenge.
From the side of the airline, during the check-in process, the check-in agent will monitor the amount of hand luggage and will apply the hand luggage allowances.
As per your experience, there is however room for improvement and Management is liaising with all airport role players in looking at ways in improving the current situation.
Regards.
