Kulula overbooks flights and you lose your seat
I had bought a ticket on Kulula flight 105 to Cape Town from Johannesburg departing on Friday February 12th at 15h25.

Firstly the electronic check in machine was out of order so after wasting 10 minutes there, after queuing, I eventually arrived at the counter about 20 minutes before the boarding gate opened (note this was over 45 minutes prior to departure).

The lady at the counter then told me that the flight was overbooked and I was going to be put on standby for the next Kulula flight at 19h30!!! 4 hours later! and then we were left on the side of the counters with no communication, no feedback, no sign of accountability from Kulula for over half an hour until finally they issued us tickets and a measly voucher -- there were 5 of us who were on time and were forced to miss the flight we had paid for.

None of us care for the voucher, we want a response as to why Kulula would do such a thing? Is that how Kulula does business? Giving away tickets of paying passengers? Overbooking flights?

If anyone buys a ticket, how can they be sure they will be able to fly on that flight?

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with us. I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience caused to you, as a result of this overbooking.
Our company has a dedicated team who work hard at accurately predicting how many customers will fail to turn up for a particular flight but in this instance our calculations were wrong. We do monitor incidents like this one so that we can take all possible steps to ensure that there is no repeat.
We never wish to disappoint our customers and therefore always attempt to first have them accommodated on alternate flights to their destination and if this is not possible then we carry our customers as soon as we can on another of our scheduled services on which a seat is available. I am sorry to learn of the lack of communication and the manner in which this matter was handled and will certainly address it with the airport managers.
The vouchers were offered as a gesture of goodwill. Please call our Contact Centre when you are ready to redeem the vouchers.
Yours Sincerely,
Nazley - CR
