Kulula billing = ******ion

Dear Kulula

So I had booked a ticket to fly from Cape Town to Johannesburg (Lanseria). The #FeesMustFall initiative resulted in exams being delayed. I was really happy to hear that Kulula was going to waiver the administration fee for those of us students affected.

Now I called in the call centre, sent the agent my student card, proof of registration and my flight details. I was told that I would have to pay a base fee of R638 to change the flight. How does this make sense? I thought that the costs involved in changing a flight were the admin fee difference in ticket fare. So in this instance I would have only been liable to pay the difference in ticket fare.

Instead I am slapped with a R638 base fee. What is that? That base fee is more expensive than the cheapest ticket available this month.
I refuse to cancel this ticket and lose all my money, but I do not want to spend so much money just to use the ticket.
I doubt I will use Kulula's services again. Feeling like a complete loser. I am a student (read \broke") and now I am losing a ticket and too much money.

Why can't I just pay the difference in the ticket fares? What is a base fee?

Regards
Disgruntled customer"""

Hello M_Mohube,

Thanks for taking the time to get in touch with us, I am terribly sorry for the experience you had while using our services.

A payable fee would still be charged for any changes made to your reservation. In addition to having to pay a change fee for a change of reservation, you would have to pay any difference between the fare and taxes on the original flight booked and the available fare and taxes (if applicable) on the new flight requested.

I have escalated this matter to the call centre supervisor to contact you.

Kind regards,
Thuli
