Don't fly Kulula
After several bad experiences I vowed never to fly Kulula again. Unfortunately I had no choice but to book recently as other airlines did not have convenient flight times for the dates I required. I booked return flights on the 17 April 2018 for travel in August 2018. The purpose of our travel was to attend my nephews wedding. Due to a change in time of the religious ceremony I needed to move my onward flight earlier. I logged on and to my dismay the total amount to do the change was R2884.02. This was in addition to the R1852.94 I had already paid. I called the call center as I was certain there was a mistake. The agent said that there was a system error and offered to do the change telephonicaly. The cost still worked out to approximately R1800. According to my calculation as indicated on the Kulula website is a R399 change fee per traveller and the difference in fair which is R172.50 for the flight I needed to change to. It seems that Kulula is charging R399 per traveller for both the onward and return flights as well as the difference in flight charges for both the onward and return flights even though only one flight needs to be changed. When I pointed out to the agent that it would be cheaper for me to book a new onward flight she said that a no show for the return booking would mean a cancellation on the return flight and a rebooking would need to be done with additional costs. So Kulula will not allow a change in name or selling the ticket nor would they allow just the onward flight to be changed. It seems very evident: MAKE THE MOST MONEY OUT OF THE CUSTOMER! I think this is grossly unfair. Friendly advice to would be travelers; RATHER FLY MANGO OR FLYSAFAIR and if you really need to fly Kulula then book tickets separately instead of as a return ticket to avoid these ridiculous penalties for changes. I'm sure many travelers have been duped into paying these unreasonable fees. One thing for certain we will never fly Kulula again!
