Kruger National Park's sad state of affairs after lock-down period

We have been visiting our beloved KNP, at least twice a year, for the past 40 years. Our latest visit, on 19 July, was the most shocking experience, we have ever had. Clearly no maintenance done over the lock-down period.

The condition, of ablutions, picnic sites and camping sites, was absolutely shocking, e.g. Berg-&-Dal’s camping terrain was clearly not maintained. Tshokwane’s ablutions were disgusting, with bad stench, no water, no door handles, no wind-clippings. Absolutely appalling.

Olifants camp was a ghost town, chairs and tables were all over the place, the windows covered in newspaper etc. There was no security or supervision.

As the Minister announced, we may take a break in our own province with the applicable rules. Why is Kruger Park not open? This makes us think that the Park is not ready for tourists because of the sad state it is in.

Our December 2019-visit to Karoo National Park serves as benchmark for these comments. We found it excellently maintained and kept up, e.g. brass taps, no single cracked tile. Everything spotless, with very friendly staff.

Why does the standard of facilities-maintenance differ across the respective SA National Parks?
