Ill advised procedure

<p>My 9 year old son had to have a permanent tooth extracted at the back of his mouth. An x-ray was done showing the entire root area very badly decayed. Antibiotic and pain syrup was prescribed on Thursday and I was told to bring him in Saturday for extraction. I called in and booked the appointment for the Tuesday as he would have only been one day on the antibiotic.</p> <p>Tuesday evening I took my son and Dr A. Allie explained that being a permanent tooth it could be tricky to extract a permanent back tooth and that kids usually confuse the pressure feeling with pain, but that it's not really pain they feel. My child agreed to go ahead after Dr Allie assured him he would only feel pressure and no pain.</p> <p>After the injection (which went fine) and the Dr started working on my son, he started breaking off pieces of tooth and my child cried hysterically. Thank God the power had cut out after a while and then Dr Allie said he should have suggested sedation because there could be complications afterwards! I was then referred to Tygerberg Hospital.</p> <p>At Tygerberg Hospital the dentist said that damage had been done and due to this my child can't only be sedated but need to undergo an op under general aneasthetic. He said that if that dentist had continued my child could have ended up with paralysis on that side of his face. </p> <p>I feel Dr Allie ill-informed me so that I couldn't make an informed decision regarding the procedure. One definitely expect a lot more from a private practice!</p>
