Do not pick Kream to celebrate
We had a booking at Kream, Brooklyn, for 25 October 2017. Our daughter and her fiancee are from Cape Town. She did her final exam at Steve Biko earlier that day. She just finished her degree as Pediatrician, 14 years of study to celebrate! She called Kream beforehand and said we are coming for a celebration dinner and she is bringing something specific to drink. She was told, over the phone, it is fine, there is no cover fee for the first bottle. No one asked what she was bringing. It was a bottle of Champagne Moët & Chandon. After we arrived and a bottle of water was ordered, no one appeared at the table for at least 10 min. Finally, one of the managers came to say we may not open the bottle, we have to buy from the wine menu. He was very impersonal. We told him that we specifically phoned to ask whether this should be fine. He disappeared again for 10 min, came back and just said sorry, can't open the bottle.
We were so excited to celebrate her degree. We had been waiting for 20 min, by that time we felt disappointed and rejected. We paid for the water and left for another restaurant just opposite.
In principal, we will never eat at Kream again and we will never bring guests to Kream again.
