Kota Joe Boksburg
After a long day having team building with colleagues we decided to visit Kota Joe to have dinner as it was one of the highly recommended spots in the area. We got there and we were not welcomed from the door to be offered a sitting area, no big deal we found a vacant table ourselves. And then in a few minutes a waitress attended to us, she was friendly and took our orders. We asked for glasses too and she was efficient in her service. We received our orders and i was the only one that ordered chicken, the rest of the group had kotas. We diged into our meals, and i started with having my side chips then my chicken. The chicken had an offish smell, but i didn't think much of it so had a bite. Upon chewing i realized that the chicken wasn't fresh and even had an after taste, more like it was marinated to cover for it having gone off. It even had an after taste, so i called for manager and the lady was understanding and took the plate with her and came back with the general manager by the name of Sean. He asked what was wrong with the chicken and i explained and he continued to tell me that there was nothing wrong with the chicken and that he tasted it (i dnt know when and how it could have been done off my sight when im the complainant). I explained that i honestly did not have with the fries, infact they were delicious but it is the chicken that im not happy with. At no point during the interaction did h acknowledge me, no apologies instead he told me i would have to pay for a meal i was not happy with because he wouldn't want it to be taken off his salary. He went to an extent that i will have to contact his head office on monday and lay a complain but right now i just had to pay. My question was if he actually thought that i would lie about a a meal that cost less than a R100 but be willing to pay for the two shawarmas that i had ordered as a takeaway. This escalated to him asking my fellow colleague to taste the chicken herself, imagine the level of disrespect; that he actually didn't mind having another person take a risk of possible food poisoning all because hefelt i was being dramatic. Im sorry i have to say this, but i felt this whole escalated to this extent all because we were seen as a group of young black people, who were trying to get an excuse not to pay for a meal. This was utmost disrespect and humiliation, we ended up cancelling the takeaway orders that we ordered because who would trust that they would be safe for us to eat if a manager himself would not taste the food infront of us but claims its ok for someone else to consume and pay for. I wish this guy could get customer service training, moreover i think he needs to learn about service recovery without making customers feel like their voice is nothing and that they must just accept mediocre service just because they are black.
