KOHLER MOTORS CLAREMONT

My vehicle (Opel corsa enjoy) was brought in for repairs at Bosch Claremont in March 2019. After the assessment it was found that the vehicle was overheating and needed a new cooling system as well as head replacement. The insurance only covered the cooling system. I then asked (a consultant) to assist with the stripping and replacing of the cylinder head which came to an amount of R10 000.

I received the car back in August 2019. A few days later the enjin light came on and I immediately returned it to bosch. According to their diagnostics it appeared to be a small plastic vent on the intake manifold that was broken and nothing serious as I could replace it at a later stage. It was later tested by an independant consultant and found that the oxygen sensors on the exhaust were given irregular readings.

In January 2020 the car overheating light came on and I took it in again. This time I was told that it was due to a faulty rubber pipe that needs to be replaced. an independent consultant tested the old pipe later and found nothing wrong with it. I was charged R2600 for the part and labour and was further told that their workmanship guarantee had expired and I had to pay for it. I noticed the car was losing water after that and repeatedly ask them to please check if the cylinder head has not blown again. The workshop manager(Gavin) told me it’s a new part and it will come right later. A few weeks later the dipstick blew out of its position spilling oil all over the motor. I then decided to take it for a 2nd opinion again for a proper assessment. Allow me to quote assessment:

I took the exhaust of which seemed to help. I Found the catalytic converter blocked…which we removed. The car then performed much better but a misfire at a higher rate revealed another problem…the head gasket has blown!!! When I started stripping I found the pipe on top of the water pump had not been correctly secured. The hose clamp was not in its correct position. It seems this was more likely the cause of the overheating and not the pipe that was replaced. The engine had sump pressure which caused the dipstick to blow.

So, based on the following information I am not a happy customer. This experience has left me badly hurt and seriously out of pocket. Bosch is a brand name that is supposed to excel at the highest level in all aspects of the motor industry.

Thus far I had given out

· a total of R12 000 to redo cylinder head

· R2600 for a pipe that had nothing to do with the problem

· R19 185 for the work Bosch did

· R10 000 (consultant)

Further awaiting another bill for the scheming block.
