Slack, money-making veterinary practice
Had my Maine ****, Kenzo at Knysna Vet for a few days... told them I had lost my job in March due to Covid so I needed to keep a close eye on expenses and needed quotes before treatment. This was ignored. Saw 3 different vets in the few days my cat was treated... there was very poor communication between them all. Dr Maricia promised to keep me updated of Kenzo's progress.. I had to keep chasing her for info.. eventually in desperation I had to message the practice on Facebook. Because of this I got a rude dressing down by Dr Maricia - in my opinion you don't assure the client that you will keep them updated when you don't bother. For a client to have to ask on social media is shocking. Eventually they diagnosed Kenzo with FIV which I stated was impossible as my cats were indoor cats and had been tested in PE. After Kenzo was discharged I took all of my cats to a second vet where the tests came back negative. I was charged R12 000 for Kenzo's treatment at Knysna Vet...with no quotes beforehand and no asking approval for any tests or procedures done after the previously mentioned 'diagnosis' - as per SAVC a quote must be given and anything above what was initially mentioned must be approved by client. This was not done. Besides this the foreign Receptionist is rude and talks over your voice on the phone, the Practice Manager, Paula promised to come back to me after I asked to put in a formal complaint and to this date never has... its been 3 weeks with no response from her. I sent an an email of complaint to the practice and informed them that the cats were in fact negative for FIV and got a response referring to Kenzo having FeLV so Dr Maricia's confusion is blatantly evident - which is it FIV or FeLV. After a large hairy '****' Kenzo is now 100% healthy. A very costly, soul destroying experience for a R12 000 hairball plus walking away thinking my Maine ****s had a death sentence.
