4 December 2017 excited that we will be going on holiday in Feb 2018 and spend the afternoon looking for a suitable place close to Gansbaai. After some time we decided to make a reservation at Klein Paradijs County Retreat near Gansbaai and paid a R1000 deposit to secure our booking. At this stage we had only one goal in mind, get through the silly season and go on our much needed break in Gansbaai.
In the middle of January 2018 I was approached by a company in the Eastern Cape for a position that had become available. Things progressed rather swiftly and we accepted the offer to relocate to the Eastern Cape by end Feb 2018.
Unfortunately we would not have been able to go on a weeks vacation and organise a move to the Eastern Cape, all in our resignations month.
So we emailed Klein Paradijs to cancel our booking and enquire about our deposit on 28 January 2018.
To date I still have not had any response from them. Not a "thank you for letting us know about the cancellation" not a word.
Being in the tourism industry, myself, I make a point to treat my gusets with respect. If they are at home or office emailing me or standing in front of me at our property it makes no difference.
All I expected as a guest was a simple email confirming the cancellation of my reservation and if possible what portion of my deposit would be refunded.
Plain and simple business practice, not rocket science.
You have an obligation to your guests, wheater they cancel a booking or not. Let's hope you treat international guests with more respect.
