Delivery team is problematic, no responsibility for mistakes
I engaged a Swiss company to deliver furniture in a shared container to South Africa. The service was carried out by a South African company called Kings International Removals. Kings International Removals in turn subcontracted LG Share Transport & Logistics to deliver the goods to a small town in the Karoo at my friend's house. The delivery team consisted of three persons. My friend, who was alone, was put under a lot of pressure to quickly sign off the items, without getting a chance to personally check all the numbers. It was very hot and the delivery team wanted to leave as quickly as possible. A few days later, after a thorough check, two items were found missing. I then wrote Kings, upon which they rep**** friendly and immediately launched a search - one item was found in their storage. But the second item remains missing and Kings refuses any responsibility on the position that "all items were signed off". Although I paid for insurance, since Kings refuses to admit the error, a claim will not be accepted by the insurance company. After I initiated the dispute, they cut all communication with me. The one item that was found was then delivered unexpectedly, without prior notice. My friend got a call at 12pm that delivery would take place later in the day. Luckily he was home. It is sad that Kings apparently cannot handle mistakes very well. I had a good experience with them a year ago with my first shipping, but now unfortunately they have let me down. I am missing 3'000 euros worth of goods and I am very unhappy about that. LG Share Transport & Logistics vehemently denies they put a lot of pressure on my friend and compromised the process of quality control because of that. My question to them how it can be that "all items were signed off" and equally one item was found later in their storage, remains unanswered.
The delivery process, including the signing off of items, is designed to ensure transparency and accountability for both parties. At the time of delivery, all items were signed off as received, which confirms the completion of the handover process. While we understand your concern about the pressure your friend felt during the delivery, our subcontractors have firmly denied any undue pressure being placed on them. The thoroughness of this step is crucial, as it validates the transfer of goods and allows us to proceed with any subsequent steps in the process.
When you raised the issue of missing items, we acted promptly to investigate. The discovery and subsequent delivery of one item from storage demonstrate our commitment to addressing concerns where evidence supports them. However, regarding the remaining missing item, no discrepancies or errors have been identified in the process, and as such, we cannot assume liability in the absence of supporting documentation or evidence. The signed delivery record is a binding confirmation of receipt.
We regret that this experience has not met your expectations, especially after your previous positive interaction with us. We are confident in our procedures and the professionalism of our team, and we trust that this matter has been handled in alignment with our policies and industry standards. Should new evidence come to light, we remain open to further reviewing the situation.
