Unacceptable, Unfair Treatment by Country Club Staff

I booked a four ball on the 9th of August 2016 for Friday morning 26 August 2016.

This was to entertain two of my clients who frequently play golf and are valued supporters of our business.

We paid to play the full 18 holes and booked two golf carts for the full 18 holes.

This was the first time we played this course. After finishing the first hole, we continued to play the 9th hole as there were no clear markings or directions to the next (2nd) hole. We then played holes 9, 10, and 16 when one of the caddies came to tell us that we are playing the course incorrectly. He then offered to take us to the 2nd hole for us to continue playing. At this time, we were only playing for about 1 hour. When we reached the second hole the Marshall came to us and asked what we are doing. We explained to him that it was our first time playing this course and played the course incorrectly. He told u that we can’t do this as there is a golf day starting at 11am and we are going to be interfering with the play of the golf day. We then explained that we will play only the holes that we missed i.e. hole 2-8 and then 11-15 and 17 and 18. This would then be the full 18 holes we paid for. The Marshall was not understanding at all and decided to follow us for the next 4 holes, rushing us ahead to finish in time for the golf day. This was not enjoyable as it distracted us from our game. When we finished the 8th hole we stopped for lunch.

JP from the pro shop came to us while we were eating telling us that we cannot continue playing as we are interfering with the golf day. We refused as we already paid to play 18 holes and at this point we only played 11 holes. He then continued to tell us that we cannot continue and eventually said we can continue playing but have to give back the carts as they need it for the golf day. We again refused as we paid R270 per cart, for the full 18 holes. JP then left. After finishing our lunch, we continued to the 11th hole to carry on where we left off. The Marshall came to us again just after we teed off at the 11th and told us to stop playing because JP told us to stop. We refused again because we paid. At this point my clients, who play golf often told me that they have never experienced anything like this at any course they ever played. This was quite embarrassing as I chose ****arney Country Club because I was told that it is a very nice, professional course.

When we reached the green of the 12th hole the Marshall and JP came with security, stating that they reserve the right to ask us to leave and said the security is there to escort us off the course.

We then drove back to the club house and parked the carts. At this point there were 5 unused carts parked at the club house. We took our things from the carts and went to the club house for something to eat and drink. We stayed until 15h30 and in this time there were at least 4 unused golf carts available. JP told us they needed the carts for the golf day but there were so many carts still available.

We booked this round of golf two weeks ago and no one told us that we need to finish early because there is a golf day on that day.

I believe that if we paid to play 18 holes with two carts, we should be allowed to finish the 18 holes, even if it takes us 6 hours.

This was completely unacceptable, unprofessional behaviour from the country club and made me look *********** in front of my clients.

I would like someone from the country club to apologise for the way we were treated and to refund me the R700 I paid for the green fees for the four ball and the R540 I paid for the carts.
