Why you must avoid KIA/Motus dealerships - Spoiler: Ripoffs

My 2014 KIA Cerato had its radiator fan replaced at Paarden Eiland. Blew a R12000 hole in my pocket. A few day later the car seized and just stopped on the side of the road. It's hard to prove blame so you take it on the chin and keep on moving

Decided to take it to Table View instead hoping for better service after a mechanic could not get the car to start. Motus/Kia Table Views technicians reported that they had run their diagnostics on the car and it needed a new starter. OK, I paid another R12k on their say so. I made a point to ask "Will this get the car working gain?" and the answer was: "Yes... just pay and we will sort the car out.".

A few days later they called to let me know the part had arrived but the car was not starting and not only would I now need to pay MORE for a dismantle to be carried out for an investigation, but I'd only know the price AFTER they were done. They charge for labour at R900/hr (would YOU have gone ahead with that investigation on trust? I don't think so).

I told them no thanks, I'll come collect my car please make it ready for collection. When we collected the car we discovered the bottom covered of the car had been removed and just dumped in my trunk. I specificaly asked the manager if this was the appropriate way to return a car to a client and he said 'yes, that our procedure" upon which I challenged him saying "Are you saying if you had removed my engine from its housing right now you would have dumped it in my trunk. He said yes. In the end the car was towed home and lo and behold my mechanics had the car start 5 minutes after the car was wheeled off the tow truck! My only assumption is Kia had been trying to rip me off with an "investigation"!

We then discovered that the speedometer sensor had been removed and called Kia to find out where it was. They denied having removed it. I went and spoke to the service manager who also flat out refused but after being pressed he promised to investigate. A few hours later he called to say they had found the sensor! By then I had gone elsewhere and had a new one fitted restoring my car to perfect working order!

I did get second opinions from my mechanics regarding the service and quotes i got from KIA and they were all resolute in saying I was getting shafted. The radiator fan that was removed could very easily have been fix at a fraction of the cost. The investigation was a money-making scheme and the removal of my sensor is a mystery to this day.

I did receive a call from the receptionist at KIA Table View to follow up and then another from the DP who promised to "Do something"... that was maybe a week to 2 weeks ago.

Why am I upset? Well, I was quoted, and spent nearly 70k at KA Parden Eiland and table View combined in just 3 months... I was even in the process (as all this was happening) of buying a Kia Picanto yet not only was I given ****py service, no one bothered to apologize, follow up or even update me. I am totally disappointed and would recommend to their clients that whenever you are quoted by KIA DO NOT TAKE THEM AT THEIR WORD! Get a second opinion, and if you are in Cape Town, call Master Parts and find out the price of the items! You will be shocked what mark up they put on those parts!

If your car is out of warranty I do not recommend you to keep going to them for repairs... trust me on this... I have become an expert on the matter!
