Kia Motors Tableview and Kia Motors Sout Africa dodge accountability - again!

The Vehicle is a Kia Sportage, 2010. with only 76 267km!

• My car was towed to Kia Tableview on 06/05/2015 for diagnostic work as my oil light had come on and I elected not to drive it further. It was making a strange sound when started, which I was advised by an independent mechanic at the point of stopping the vehicle, sounded like a blocked oil pump. I conveyed this knowledge to the Kia Tableview workshop intake personnel upon its delivery by flatbed tow truck. A CAM sensor diagnosis was given instead and they commenced work on that as well as performed a service. As I had missed the 40 000km service, my factory warranty was no longer valid. I was told however that if I paid in full for my 60 000km service, the factory warranty would be reinstated in full and the CAM sensor parts and labour would be covered. I accepted the proposal with thanks.

• The oil light was still on when I collected the car on 04/06/15 and I alerted the workshop personal via a phone call of this immediately, I told them I wasn't comfortable driving it. But I was told all was in order and I can continue to drive the vehicle with confidence and it was nothing to worry about. I merely needed to bring the car in the following week for the oil warning light to be “reset”.

• That same day, the engine seized and the vehicle was completely undrivable. I broke down at night on the highway en route home. Kia Tableview denied any responsibility and refused to help.

• Upon pressure from Kia SA (only following a facebook post of mine on their wall) Kia Tableview undertook to replace my engine due to the seizure affecting all moving parts due to a blocked oil pump. I was told I was given a new engine at no cost to me due to Kia Tableview's negligence. I was also given a warranty that all parts and labour were guaranteed for 12 months. This was on 30/07/15 via email from the Service Manager.

• Less than 12 months later on 21/06/2016 my vehicle would not idle and cut out when it got below certain revs. Kia Tableview has diagnosed this as a timing chain, Intake VVT Sprocket, Exhaust VVT Sprocket, Hydraulic Tensioner [etc] needing replacing at my cost. Kia Tableview has rejected my claim that the engine replacement still falls within the 12 month guarantee on last year’s work (which it clearly does)

• My complaint is based on the fact that these parts should have been replaced during the July 2015 engine replacement and the old parts damaged by the seizure should not have been put back into the engine. Due to the cost/corner-cutting nature of their 2015 work, I am now expected to pay R16 813.65 to get my car back on the road. I feel this is unfair and I am within my rights to have the vehicle properly repaired and returned to me at no cost as it stems from their initial negligence and the subsequent engine seizure.

I would like my towing costs as well as my car hire (all paid out of my pocket to date) to be covered by Kia as well as the repairs.

I have issued complaints to both the Motor Industry Ombudsman of SA and the National Consumer Commission of SA.
