Kia lies to its customers

After receiving confirmation from Kia Edenvale on the 14th February 2017 that my Kia Sorento engine had seized due to a manufacturing defect involving the oil pump, and that it was covered by the Kia 10 year warranty on their engines at a replacement value of R247 000, it would take 3 weeks to be replaced and all I needed to do was get transport for this period.

Almost 5 weeks later Kia is ducking and diving. With so many stories that Ican't keep track of the lies any more.

I purchased this vehicle in 2015 with a mileage of 94 000 from a private seller. Obtained confirmation that the vehicle had a full service history. Puchased a further Kia platinum service plan to cover the vehicle to 135000km . Puchased a SA warranty plan to cover any additionals. The above was suggested and recommended by KIa to ensure piece of mind.

At my first service I mentioned to Kia Kempton Park that the seller had still been unable to locate the service book. They confirmed that it was not a problem as their vehicles were tagged electronically and the book was not required to service the vehicle. I serviced the vehicle at 105 000km and at 120 000 kms and I was told by Kia Kempton Park that the vehicle was in good condition. I continued to maintain the vehicle without any problems.

Until the 9th February on my way home I heard a ********** noise in the engine and the engine cut out whilst driving on the freeway. The vehicles was then towed to Kia Edenvale on the 13th February 2017.
Upon receiving the vehicle and investigating Kia Edenvale confirmed that the oil pump had in fact broken off the engine which in their own words was a result of a manufacturing defect. I was assured that I had done my services and the engine would be covered by the warranty.

After 3 weeks the vehicle was not ready as promised and with no feedback from Kia I started to wonder what was really on the go. Phones calls were being avoided and two different stories began to emerge from Kia Edenvale.

At 4 weeks we were told that Kia could not proceed with either repairing or replacing the engine till we produced the service book. When I challenged all the above promises with Kia Edenvale I was told to take up this matter with Kia Customer Services.

After numerous calls to Customer Services we were advised on 15th March that the claim had finally been submitted and they were awaiting the inspectors report as to whether the vehicle's engine would be either be repaired or replaced (all this now with no mention of me requiring the service boo****!).

Two days later, we called again as we had not heard from Kia despite numerous messages being left, only to be told that they could not find a record of a supposed 75000km service in 2013 , 2 years before I purchased the vehicle and as a result of this I would not be covered by their warranty.

This was in total contradiction to what Kia Edenvale had said on the 14th February and what customer services had said 2 days earlier.

After numerous failed attempts to speak to the Ceo of Kia South Africa to have this matter addressed we are back to square one. No transport and no Kia vehicle.

After being loyal customers of Hyandai and Kia since 1989 primarily because of their alleged superior customer service we are devastated to realize that these brands hold no interigty nor loyalty to their customers and further cannot be trusted nor re**** upon.

The vehicle is a 2009 Kia Sorento and we would like to firstly call upon any other Kia Sorento owners that have experienced any other similar problems in particular a defective oil pump issue to give feedback on their experiences.

Secondly and more importantly to WARN all Kia Sorento owners of the possible risk of them experiencing the same or similar manufacturing defective problems should their vehicle be in excess of 120 000kms as we would not wish this experience on anyone else.

Please could anyone offer any advice or assistance on the way forward as we are at our wits end.
