Kia Dual Mass Flywheel is ridiculous.

Dear Kia South Africa,

I purchased a 2011 Kia Sorento 2.2Crdi Manual 6 speed FWD with approximately 70000km from a Hyundai dealership in roodepoort. The Dual Mass Flywheel has packed up and Kia has quoted me R67,000 to fix it.

Below is my email to the dealership:

Good day Natasha,

With regards to the quote that you sent through to me, I'm sure anyone would agree that R67,000 is an exorbitant amount to fix a car. R36,000 just for the flywheel.

I extended my warranty through SA Warranties specifically so that if something should mechanically fail on the vehicle that I would be covered. The flywheel is not covered.

Instead of going through Kia I decided to obtain quotes from various RMI approved dealerships to weigh up my options. None of them could source this Dual Mass Flywheel. So I started looking myself, out of desperation.

After hundreds of emails and dozens of phone calls, no one could help me. I found a dealership that could machine a new flywheel out of my old one but this essentially renders the flywheel a single solid unit with no relief. I am going ahead with this option as it is significantly cheaper than sourcing a new flywheel.

The purpose of this email is to voice my absolute dissatisfaction with Kia as a product. I bought the vehicle from Hyundai next to yourselves on approximately 70 000km. At 109 000km I find myself facing a potential R67,000 bill. A clutch is understandable due to wear and tear, but why can Kia not guarantee a flywheel worth R36,000?

I would like to escalate an official complaint to Kia South Africa. After this experience I feel I shall not be using your products in the future and may also advise others of the same.
