Kia Dealership

Details of complaint

I bought a 2016 KIA Sportage from KIA Menlyn in February 2016.
I went to KIA Menlyn and I was received by Alfred Lehobye whom I had extensive
Discussion about the possibility of me having a KIA Sportage with Panoromic Roof. I
Gave him my financial background to enable him see if it could be possible. I told
A lfred that I whatever calculations he is going to make, he must not lead me to
Residual payment. I made it clear that I don’t want it. I gave Alfred all the required
for when you want to buy a car. I also asked Alfred to check how much would my
Monthly instalment be like. Alfred calculated for me on 48 months and 72 months and
We agreed on 72 months which was to be R7000.00 per month. When I fetched the
car the instalment changed to R7500.00. And when it was deducted it came up to R7633.56. I ignored all that.
1. I was not going to take the car if the instalment was high. That would mean
I was not going to afford it.
2. I was not going to take the car if it had residual payment. That would mean it
Was going to be too expensive for me.
So all negotiations were done between myself and Alfred until the day I went to fetch
The car whereby I needed to sign now. When I got there Alfred took me to Herman’s
Office whom is said to be the finance person. Before I went to Herman’s office I asked
Alfred if Herman knew what was required based on our negotiations. He said yes and
He confirmed by saying he also gave him details in writing in order for him not to make
mistake. In signed. Took the car because I was told if I take it I can only start paying
in May (cool off time). But suddenly everything changed and cool off time was only
One month. Well it was not right but I ignored.

So my complain is: When I checked my statement from MFC I found out that a
Residual amount of R160,000.00 was included on my purchase. I immediately called
Alfred asking him why did he do that? He asked me to come to the dealership and to
See this statement. He again confirmed to me that he gave Herman all the correct
Details, like I said he even gave him a written paper to see what is wanted. So when I
got there Herman was called and the first word was how are you and when I said not
good he said to me what is wrong because I don’t have time. I asked him if he knew
That I correctwas waiting for him. He said I must not be rude and I said to me he
Better correct his attitude towards me as a customer. He asked me to come to his
Office. When I got there I asked him I did he get to the residual without talking to me,
His answers were - unapologetic:
Details of steps taken to resolve the complaint

1. He said the bank calculates residual amount automatically. He went on to say they check your financial background and they do it so that you can afford your instalments.
2. When Alfred asked him how can he remove the residual – he instead asked me how long do I want to keep the car. He advised me not to make it an asset. I told him not to ask me that.
3. Alfred asked him again the same question – arrogantly he said he can but I must know that my monthly instalments will go up by R1200.00 per month. Which I cannot afford.
4. He went on to say he feels like a **** and a cheat. My response was I am the one who has been cheated here.
5. He started shouting at Alfred and that was when I said to them I am going seek advise and I said I will see them the next day but I never went.
I don’t want this car anymore because from what he says I will not afford the
repayments anymore. Secondly I did not discuss how long I want to keep the car and
I am paying a lot for someone to say it is not an asset anymore.
