Treatment of ring during resizing

I had an awful experience at Khans. I took my sapphire engagement ring to them to be resized and retreated as the gold had become 'yellowed'.

When I got my ring back I was just so happy it fitted. I didn't think anything of it. I teach, so on wearing it to school one day a learner of mine commented on how black it was. I hadn't realised how much darker it suddenly appeared.

The sapphire used to be a dark navy blue colour. When I questioned the gentleman that works there about this he became rude. i asked was it possible for the stone to discolour and he totally denied that this was possible.

I've since spoken to another jeweler that says that this is not true. If a sapphire is mistreated and over heated or exposed to chemicals it can discolour. I want to know what was done to ensure the safety of my stone.

The gentleman was very rude.
