Stay very far away!
Stay far away from this scheme. The so-called MST amounts they pay for certain procedures, are unreasonably low and fail to account for the expertise of highly qualified specialists. As an example, a payment of R370.40 paid towards the removal of adenoids (an in-theatre procedure) is notably less than a standard general practitioner's charge for a 15-minute consultation. This is laughable. Even when making use of their so called "Preferred Providers" and providing full quotes for the required procedures, they refuse to provide any undertaking that the doctors will be paid in full. Therefore one has to wait and wonder if you will be slapped with a massive bill from the attending specialists after the procedure is complete.
Another problem is their poor turnaround times and general lack of effective administration. When sending requests to designated email addresses, no acknowledgement of receipt is provided. So once again, one has to wait and wonder if someone is actually dealing with the request, or whether it's gone into a black hole.
Their official turnaround time on a hospital authorizations is 48 working hours i.e. 6 working days based on an 8 hour workday. Members have to wait 6 days for Keyhealth to provide a response which could be to tell you that they require additional information. Ultimately, getting authorization for a procedure could take weeks.
