No Authorization for Birthing for a high risk pregnancy patient.
The medical aid doesn't want to give you authorization in writing, they provided me with auth no: *** but cannot give me something in writing. I am a hugh risk pregnancy patient with diabetes. I cannot book a bed because I cannot have paper work. Is the scheme saying I should give birth in public hospital if it happens I go into early labour or complications? I might give birth in August because I am having a big baby but my medical doesn't care.

It is Scheme rules that authorizations are not released more that 30 days prior to the required service date. You were given the MSO auth number to use as a reference number, to use when you book your bed. Our clinical department confirmed that your request is clinically appropriate, they provided you with an authorization number to use as a reference number to book your bed, this was explained to you telephonically. There was no confirmation that the scheme will not cover the birth.
