Keyhealth Medical Scheme

We were accepted by KeyHealth medical aid as new members on their Origin option with no waiting period. My husband experienced very bad pains on his right hand side a week after we got accepted and our GP referred him to a specialist at a private hospital. They did scans and established that he has a problem with his gallbladder and it needs to be removed. We requested authorisation from the Scheme to have the operation done. They requested non-disclosure information from our GP and from the surgeon, which was sent to them.

According to the rude lady working in the financial department of the scheme, my husband had a pre-existing condition that was not disclosed on our application and therefor they declined admission.

Our GP explained, his history is based on previous minor acute ailments that was treated with anti-biotics and the ailments. It is not a pre-existing condition. According to my understanding a pre-existing condition is a condition that you are currently being treated for or have been treated for and could require chronic medication.

Seems I have annoyed the lady in the financial department too much and she kindly decided to cancel our medical aid on our behalf.

I have reported them to the Council for Medical Schemes and are currently awaiting feedback.
