Ineptitude at it's finest.

I have never dealt with a more inept bunch of people, and a less caring medical aid than Key Health. I was recently supposed to be admitted into Akeso hospital for three weeks, where I was supposed to undergo treatment for mental health issues. I was misdiagnosed with bipolar last year, and had to do a switch in medication under the supervision of nurses etc. after being diagnosed by my new psychologist with a new diagnosis. This required a change in medication. One of the side effects of changing the medication was suicidal tendencies and a whole bunch of less than appealing symptoms. I phoned Key Health a number of times to get help with my admission, and they made it increasingly difficult. The consultants were unfriendly, and unhelpful (with the exception of Karabo who really tried to help). My psychiatrist was worried about my mental health at the time, and the possibility of me committing suicide. She submitted her motivation to Key Health, and they still refused to accept my claim as a new diagnosis. When I told the medical aid that suicide was a distinct possibilty, they simply responded by saying 'it's a 50/50 chance' of my claim being accepted - it was rejected in the end. No matter how many times I tried to explain that this was not a case of non-disclosure, and was in fact a new diagnosis, they simply refused to understand and continued to tell me that it was a case of non-disclosure. I was standing in the reception of Akeso when I was told that my pre-authorisation was unsuccessful. I then had to be admitted as a cash patient, something which I certainly could not afford. This is why I have medical aid. My mental state was incredibly frail at this stage, and the medical aid did nothing to aid me. I am now over R30 000 out of pocket owing to the ineptitude and lack of caring displayed by this medical aid. I would not recommend Key Health to anybody! I am moving to Discovery as of the end of the month.
