Kenyan Airways cancelled flight - no refund now I'm stranded

I am a South African stranded in Rwanda. I booked a flight from Kigali, Rwanda to Johannesburg OR Thambo Airport with Kenyan Airlines.

The airlines cancelled the flight, and did not even notify me of the cancellation. The flight is for Saturday 9th May 2020. Today is Wednesday 6th May 2020.

I went on the internet to get my Flight details so I can have them ready for Saturday, only to see that the flight has been cancelled with no notification to its booked passengers.

Am stranded in Rwanda, after Saturday, I do not have a place to stay and am completely out of cash. I used the last of my money to book a flight to get home to my family. I tried to reason with the agent to get a refund so I could at least pay someone else to get me home. They said the airline is not willing to refund me, but will give me a credit for a future flight. (I do not usually travel, the last time I travelled internationally was probably about 4 or more years ago).

There is apparently another flight with a different airline that will be flying to South Africa on 9th but for almost 3 times the price......

Is there not supposed to be a sense of decency with airlines in this time of crises that they would refund flights cancelled to assist stranded people?

Please, I really need to get home and do not want to miss the small window there is to get another flight.

The agent has told me I can get a refund if I cancel my booking, losing 100USD per ticket. Why should I lose this money of I did not cancel the flight???

This is the worst service ever!
