No Communication

I went for a procedure at my GP( Dr David Kathan's Practice in Westridge, Mitchells Plain) in June 2016. I was then referred to a specialist by the doctor after I received my results. I was given a date and the specialist name and that was about it. No mention of any authorization what so ever. Months later Ireceived a sms reminder from who I assumed must have been an automated sms from UCT Hospital on the day of my appointment which I had to re-schedule because I was at work and could not leave. I sms'd the number back and asked if I could get another date which was arranged for the 11th of Febrauary 2017. When going for my appointment on the date of the 11th of Febrauary 2017 I sat in the reception area and had to sit with the receptionist ( a male) who took my details and loaded it on their system ( I was never asked for an authorization number). Once I stepped into the doctors room I found it very strange as to why the doctor asked me why I was their, which I explained and said to him I thought my results was sent through to him as the GP made the appointment for me. He said no reults were sent and told me the procedure will have to be carried out again which he did. A few days later after receiving my results from Dr Olarogun he said he now has to refer me to another specialist. I was very dumb struck when i was sent a mail from Dr Olaroguns accounts department with a bill as the lady eplained in the mail she sent that my Medical Aid does not cover the procedure and that I an liable for the bill. I was very shocked and asked her to explain why, she said that I did not have an authorization number nor does is this doctor listed under my Medical Aid option.

I am extremely upset because from the get go there was no mention of an authorization number, as I would expect these details to be explained to a patient. Surely I pay Medical Aid fees each month for a reason. I inquired with the GP and all I was told is that I had to get an authorization number before going to see Dr Olarogun which I was never told, and I don't see how that would have helped because the GP made an appointment with a specialist whose not even listed with my Medical Aid . Just yesterday i received another bill for Pathology rooms of Dr Olarogun. This is ridiculous if you ask me. I will not pay for these bill, if the correct procedures were followed and if the GP had explained to me what should be done none of this would have been a problem. I was told by one of the receptionist at the GP's rooms that they had app**** for an auth number but it was not confirmed, I have heard so many stories and can't believe any of it. Perhaps if the receptionist at the Gp stayed constant there would not be this confusion. I was even told that the Doctor atUCT could not have helped me without an authorization number but that is exactly what happened.
