Shocking Neglect and Inhumane Conditions at Karl Bremer Trauma Unit

Review Body: I am absolutely appalled by the treatment I witnessed at Karl Bremer Hospital. I dropped off an employee at the Emergency Room on 24 July around 17:00, and when I returned to check on her the following day, 25 July at 12:30, she was still in the Trauma Unit, sitting upright in a chair for over 19 hours—without sleep, no chance to wash, and having received nothing more than a piece of bread.

The Trauma Unit was in complete disarray. No proper triage, no basic care, and absolutely no compassion. Patients were clearly suffering, unattended, and left in an environment that can only be described as chaotic and emotionally traumatizing.

This is not healthcare—it is neglect. It’s deeply distressing to know that our public health system can allow this kind of treatment to happen. And it’s even more painful to know that those most in need of help are treated with such disregard. If this is the standard of care, then we have a serious crisis on our hands.

I urge the hospital CEO, Mr. Johnathan Lucas, and the Western Cape Department of Health to investigate this immediately. The Trauma Unit is failing the people it is meant to serve.

No one deserves to be treated like this.
