My Kannaland Woes
***
I joined Kannaland Holiday Resort in June/July 2004. I had never used the points accumulated per year (4 points). The monthly contribution is R180.00 (currently) plus levies. I had never used any of the homes as I figured I would retire one day and then use my points. I retired in 2019 and this year, 9-12 April 2021 I used the holiday home in Brittania Bay. Was I disappointed. A front door window pane had been replaced by a piece of hard board. The leg of a dining room table was broken. I picked this up as a prior guest had jotted this down in the guest book (I made a copy of the guest book). If I was not aware of this someone could have broken a leg, or an arm. The toaster did not work. The kettle shorted the electricity out. Only one of the plates of a three-plate stove worked properly. I had to boil water in pot to make coffee. The mold in the shower was absolutely abhorrent. The tap in the bath room sink was loose. The tap on the pipe that led to the cistern did not work properly and leaked. We had to use a bucket to add water to the toilet pot. I booked in at 14h00 and I found the hostess and a gentleman trying to fix the toilet tap. They were unsuccessful. I then took the inventory and found out about the things above. I contacted the owner/director and in no uncertain terms informed her how I felt and of the shortcomings of the holiday home. Her excuse was that the holiday home was fully booked and therefore they could not fix the holiday home! She indicated that the hostess’s husband would come by later that day/evening to fix the electricity or tap. It never happened. I called the hostess and needless to say, the conversation did not go well. I did not hear from the owner/director again. On Sunday someone else came by the home to enquire when we would leave. She also indicated that the hostess ( Cherise, who welcomed us on Friday) had quit. According to the rules of Kannalnd Holiday Resort, whenever you move into a holiday home, you must take an inventory, which I did. Huge discrepancies were found. Specifically, I found four pillows short. However, when my breakage deposit was paid into my account, they had deducted R250, for a pillow! I had indicated to them that there were 4 pillows missing when I took the inventory. In addition, in a subsequent email she indicated that my 20 points for the weekend would be returned to me. I asked them to send me a statement with my points on it. It never came. I subsequently received an email that I would only receive 10 points. The owner/director reneged on her initial decision.
If she had called me, then those calls would have shown on my phone. This shows how dishonest this owner/director is. Also, she now only recognizes the toilet problem and the stove problem. The other problems are regarded as “unforeseen circumstances”. My monthly contribution/premium and levies also unforeseen? Back then (I think a year or two ago), Kannaland started a WhatsApp group. However it was taken down very quickly as patrons started to air things Kannaland did not want to hear. She also said: “Soos jy kan sien (loosely translated)”, when had given back your points. I have never received a statement of my points after this incident. I want people to know and see whom we are dealing with. I took pictures of the guest book to see the discrepancies. Her own hostess said that some of the problems (tap) had been reported a year before. I asked the office if I was the only person to complain and I was told that I was not. This kind of thing is a long time coming. I also typed up my inventory and kept it.
