Kandua - shameful business that does not vet contractors before marketing them to consumers

Kandua does not vet contractors using their site for marketing and takes no responsibility after unleashing the most *********** and dishonest people on unsuspecting consumers. Here is a review I wrote about Alec Maxwell, a contractor we found via Kandua:

‘We’ve had the worse experience ever with Alec Maxwell whom we contracted with to complete a home improvement project and paid him R50000. On his first day (10 December) a fight broke out between his workers who were drinking on the job. One them damaged our fence. We watched while Alec and one of his workers argued violently for over an hour. His worker claimed that Alec doesn’t pay them and is dishonest. Alec gave us some excuse and we allowed him to continue working because his worker was drunk so we gave him (Alec) the benefit of the doubt - what a mistake this was. Two weeks later, another one of his workers who was in our home painting started harassing my family claiming that Alec hadn’t paid him and therefore his family doesn’t have food. We explained that we had paid Alec and we can’t get involved in a dispute between Alec and his workers….. the poor guy begged us and returned to our house 3x when Alec wasn’t there begging us to help his family as Alec didn’t pay him. Again there were two violent confrontations at our property between Alec and this particular worker. Then a few weeks later, another guy who Alec arranged to clear rubble came to my house and questioned my mother because Alec hadn’t paid him and and told him he can’t pay because we haven’t paid him (utter lies, we paid Alec R50k for work he hasn’t completed). After delays and poor workmanship, Alec sent a WhatsApp saying he no longer has the money we paid and asks us to give him time to raise the money to finish the work. There is about R15k work outstanding for which we’ve already paid the materials and labour, money that he lost or spent and is now asking us to give him time to raise the money. Here is a copy paste of the WhatsApp: “Hi Donna the problem that l have is when l go home l did leave the slips to collect the tops .just give me some time to raise the money to buy new tops

I understand that am asking alot . I won't run away . So am asking u if u can give me time to raise money to buy tops so that l can do your job .. since l came home l didnt have a job . So l promise u l will finish your job

U went to there to ask them to give me the boards because l already paid but they said they needed the slip of which l don't have

U know the problem l was in last week . But l will raise the money . The guy that borrowed my car lost my slips….”

We have been to the police and are now taking legal action against Alec. Shame on kandua for not vetting people first and then unleashing them on unsuspecting consumers. And shame on Alec Maxwell - you give everyone in your industry a bad name. We will let the court sort you out.’ Shame on kandua for this - they take no responsibility and continue to market people without vetting them.
