Emergency or no Emergency?? Dichem or No Dischem?

My Dad Fell at the age of 75 and Broke his Elbow off completely on the 25 th of August 2025. Initially we did not know it was so serious but when my Dad woke up in the Morning his arm was pitch black and swollen double the size, we then spoke to our house Doc Leistner and the immediately sent us for x-rays, that afternoon later, we got results and were told to go to Dr Steyn first thing in the morning as it was completely broken. when we got to the Doc he sent us to the hospital immediately as it was very serious and An EMERGENCY for sure, if the swelling went down my Dad would loose all the mobility in his arm. We then proceeded to Call Dischem as we have Accidental coverage which they then proceeded to tell us they will not cover us as it was later than 24 hours and we did not go through casualties.

Firstly it was late on the 25th and we wanted to see if it was serious as Dad did not have pain so did not run to the Hospital.

We went to the Doctor on Call/Duty for the Mediclinic hospital not knowing that this is not correct we needed to firstly be booked into Casualties.

This is so dissappointing as your Health Insurance should be your peace of Mind and as Pensioners who can not afford Medical Aid thought at least they would be covered for this!

It cost them R120 000 of their Savings to save my Dad's Arm...

They blatantly said they did not feel it was an accident or emergency, WHAT? How, what is then classified as and Emergency then??
