Judea Gas and Construction - Wellington

I accepted a quotation of R175,000 from Judea Gas in July 2024 for a pool enclosure project and had paid R122,500 — 70% of the total — before any work began on site.

Work only commenced at the end of February 2025. During this period, I received additional invoices for charges I had not agreed to, including amounts labelled "delay by owner”, which was not the case (there was no such delay).

Judea Gas advised and agreed at the outset that an engineer's inspection would be required before proceeding to the next phase, and it was their responsibility to arrange it. Despite this being requested, the engineer only attended site during November 2025 — several months later. The engineer identified corrections required to the roof and structure, after which Judea Gas requested further payment before addressing these findings.

Having paid R122,500 of the quoted R175,000, I currently have an incomplete project with outstanding structural corrections identified by an engineer. Based on my experience of significant delays, unagreed additional charges, and being asked to pay further before defects were corrected, I would not use this contractor again.
