JSC_Services - Shaun Kerr - Trailer builder
On 26 June 2020 my husband Roland and I met with Shaun Kerr from JSC-Services at 22 Kokstad Street in Benoni. He advertises trailer builds all over Facebook and we needed a 3.5 ton, 6m x 2.4m trailer with a double axel to be built. Our intention for the trailer was to transform it into a Tiny House. Once Shaun Kerr had agreed that he could do this build, we noticed that he had a youngster working for him in the yard that was welding and doing a really good job. We explained why we wanted the trailer and asked if he would be prepared to also do the welded framework for the Tiny House on the trailer. He agreed but said that this would cost us more, and would send us a quote. We asked him how long this build would take and he said that they usually get through 3-4 trailers in a week, but would estimate 10 to 14 days for our build. We stressed that it was really important that he did a good job and we would be ok with this timeline. We sent along our sketches and plans and in return we received the quote for R38500.00 On the 2nd July 2020 we paid him a deposit of R27 000 to do the build. On the 9thJuly he let us know that he had only just received the steel for the build and needed to finish off other work and then begin on ours. Numerous phone calls and whatsapp messages later, we were told that we could come through and see our nearly completed trailer on 23 July. Then it was extended to the 24thJuly and then again till the 27th July. On arrival we were very surprised to see that there was no trailer. Only a flat welded metal framework on the ground. Horrified, my husband told him that we were displeased with the progress and where was the trailer to which he said that Burquip International who supp**** the wheels and axel for our trailer had not yet delivered but assured us that they would be delivered in 2 days (Wednesday) He then told us that he had to have our build complete by Saturday (3 days later), to which we rep**** that this is a ridiculous expectation and said that he has 10 more days to complete it. He promised profusely that this would be so and in fact adequate time for him to complete this. On the 5th August my husband went through to see the progress of the build to discover that there was still no trailer. He promised again that Burquip had not yet delivered but would definitely be delivering the following day and that the build would be completed by Saturday 15th August On the 11th August Roland went back again to assess the progress. Once again, the trailer was not there. He again blamed Burquip for not delivering and assured us again that the trailer would be complete and delivered to us on Saturday 15th August. He then said that should he not meet this deadline, that he would refund the R27 000 deposit to us immediately. On Friday, the day day before expected delivery, Roland went through again to discover that there was still no trailer and that Shaun was not there. He tried calling numerous times but received no reply and left messages for him to return his call. Later that evening, his whatsapp messages started coming through asking us to allow him to pay back the deposit on a payment plan as he had spent the money and that there was no way that he could complete the build. He blamed the theft of our money on the fact that his wife had a child and could not work, COVID, wages, electricity, rent etc. but also admitted to completing 4 other trailers during this time. This man has **** so much that he has confused himself. He is ************* and a charlatan who should not be allowed to do what he does. This matter will not be resolved until we have received our R27000.00 back.
